17. The Be-Do-Have Model: Attracting Your Reality

Flipping the Script: The Power of Internal Alignment #

We’ve explored the limitations of the Have-Do-Be and Do-Have-Be models, which often lead to a perpetual state of chasing and unfulfillment. Now, we arrive at the most powerful framework for sustainable success and genuine fulfillment: the Be-Do-Have model. This paradigm flips the conventional approach on its head, starting with an internal shift that fundamentally alters your relationship with reality.

“The best way to predict the future is to create it.” — Peter Drucker

Understanding the Be-Do-Have Framework #

  1. BE: Cultivating Your Identity This is the foundational step. It means beginning by being the person you need to be to achieve your goals. This involves cultivating the mindset, beliefs, values, and identity of someone who already embodies what they desire. For example, if you aspire to be a successful entrepreneur, start being confident, resourceful, resilient, and innovative right now. This is about internal alignment and self-perception. This internal shift is often rooted in faith or trust (whether in oneself, the universe, or a higher power). It’s the belief that by focusing on who you are becoming and taking aligned action, the desired outcomes will manifest. For many, this faith extends to a belief in God, providing a profound sense of peace and assurance that their path is divinely guided, and that challenges are opportunities for growth.

  2. DO: Aligned Action from Authentic Self Once you are being that person, the doing naturally flows from your authentic self. Your actions will be aligned with your new identity and internal state. This is where the principle of burning the bridges becomes paramount. There is no Plan B. A backup plan is a subconscious admission of doubt that pollutes your commitment. By focusing all your energy on a single path, you signal to your subconscious mind that failure is not an option. This unwavering focus, fueled by a healthy obsession, is the essence of powerful action. A confident and resourceful individual does market research, does network strategically, and does take calculated risks with conviction because there is no other way forward.

This approach encourages process-oriented thinking. While outcomes are important, the primary focus is on the journey of becoming and the actions taken along the way. It’s about enjoying the learning, the growth, and the daily steps. When you are process-oriented, you find joy and fulfillment in the present moment, and the outcomes become a natural byproduct of a well-executed process. This approach fosters resilience, as setbacks are seen as part of the learning process, not as definitive failures.

  3. HAVE: The Inevitable Outcome of Alignment Finally, as a direct and inevitable result of being the right person and doing the aligned actions, you will have the desired outcomes. The success, the wealth, the fulfilling relationships, the vibrant health – these are the natural consequences of embodying the person you need to be and taking inspired action. This model emphasizes attracting what you desire through internal congruence, rather than endlessly chasing external validation.

The Rider’s Vision and the Horse’s Cooperation #

In our analogy, the Be-Do-Have model represents the Rider cultivating an unshakeable belief in their ability to guide the Horse, and the Horse, sensing this conviction, responds with trust and cooperation. The Rider first Becomes the confident, clear-sighted leader. From that state of being, they Do the necessary training and navigate the terrain with purpose, focusing on each step of the journey. As a result, the harmonious arrival at the destination—the Having—becomes a natural outcome of the Rider’s clear guidance and the Horse’s willing cooperation. It’s a partnership built on internal alignment, leading to external manifestation.

Universal Application of the Be-Do-Have Model #

Consider an aspiring artist. Instead of waiting to have a gallery show to be an artist (Have-Do-Be), or tirelessly doing art to have a portfolio to be recognized (Do-Have-Be), they first Be an artist. They cultivate the identity of a creative, expressive individual. From that state of being, they Do the work—they paint, they sketch, they experiment, not for external validation, but because it is who they are. As a natural consequence, they Have a body of work, opportunities, and recognition. This applies to any area: a leader Becomes a leader, then Does the actions of leadership, and Has a thriving team.

My Journey to Be-Do-Have #

My personal journey, particularly after the disillusionment of my software engineering career, became a conscious application of the Be-Do-Have model. I stopped chasing external markers of success and instead focused on being the person who was free, disciplined, and in control of my own destiny. This meant cultivating a mindset of abundance, resilience, and unwavering self-belief, even when external circumstances were challenging. From that state of being, the doing became effortless. I did the research, I did the disciplined practice, I did the risk management, not because I had to, but because it was congruent with who I was becoming. The having—the financial freedom, the location independence, the fulfilling life—was not something I chased, but something that naturally manifested as a direct result of this internal alignment. It was a profound shift from striving to attracting.

Implementing the Be-Do-Have Model in Your Life #

To integrate the Be-Do-Have model into your own life:

  1. Define Your “Be”: Clearly articulate the identity, qualities, and mindset of the person you need to become to achieve your goals. Write it down, visualize it, and embody it daily.
  2. Act from Your “Be”: Let your actions flow from this desired identity. Ask yourself, “What would the person I aspire to be do in this situation?” Then, do that.
  3. Trust the Process: Understand that the “Having” is a natural consequence of consistent “Being” and “Doing.” Detach from the immediate outcome and trust that your aligned efforts will yield results.
  4. Burn the Bridges: Commit fully to your chosen path. Eliminate backup plans that signal doubt to your subconscious.
  5. Cultivate Faith: Develop an unwavering belief in your capacity to manifest your desires through aligned action.

The Ultimate Framework for Attracting Your Desired Reality #

The Be-Do-Have model is the ultimate framework for attracting what you desire through internal congruence. It empowers you to create your reality from the inside out, ensuring that your success is not just external, but deeply fulfilling and sustainable. This sets the stage for understanding how all these elements harmonize into a symphony of success.
